Front Shoulder Positions Dictate Command

Once you finish your front leg lift with your feet in line with one another, you can trust your body to send your pitches directly into your target with uncanny regularity.

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

A Closed Front Shoulder Hurts Command.

Stand in place, and, to throw the ball, you must move your front shoulder out of the way.

Having to deliver the ball around your front shoulder means you can only hope your ball goes where you want.

An Open Front Shoulder Promotes Command.

Stand on one foot with your front heel in line with your back foot, clear your front shoulder and you automatically whip your throwing arm into release.

Reproduce these conditions in your pitching motion and your body spontaneously whips your throwing arm through the same path on every pitch.

The Transition Is Easy.

If you must clear your front shoulder to complete your delivery, it’s because you end your front leg lift with your weight over your back foot.

You reverse this by ending your front leg lift without your feet going past one another, spinning out of your front leg lift, and letting your body automatically produce the command you want.

Real-World Experiences Expose Command Breakdowns

Pro Pitching Institute

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Trust your real-world experiences to help improve your command.

Proof Balance Without Movement Hurts Command.

When balancing on a bike in place, at the first you’re about to fall over, you trust your subconscious will move your handlebars to the opposite side.

When pitching and a weight shift sends you toward your target, you can trust you will lose control of your Throwing Arm path.

Evidence Your Subconscious Is on Automatic.

When balanced on a bike and there’s a threat you’re about to fall over, you can trust your subconscious will move your handlebars.

When pitching, as you drive down the mound, your body will use your Arms for balance, and you will lose your command.

Confirmation You Can Control Your Arm Movements.

When riding a bike and you keep your weight positioned over your rotating wheels, your arms will be free to steer you where you want to go.

When pitching, as you spin your torso down the mound, you can trust your Arms won’t be needed for balance and will remain free to command your pitches.

Bike Behaviors Build Command.

When you end your Front Leg lift with your weight around your Back Leg and spin down the mound, you can trust your pitches will go where you want.

Your Command Struggles are Avoidable

Pro Pitching Institute

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Command is a behavior.

Place your posting foot on a 2×4, center your other foot over the beam, and bring your Glove Side elbow behind your body.

Do this several times in a row and, each time you do, out of the corner of your eye, notice how your throwing hand instinctively comes through the same release window on each motion.

How does your front leg lift behave?

On flat ground, get into your regular front leg lift and bring your Glove Arm elbow behind your body.

Unlike the 2×4, either your Body twists around itself, or, if you move forward, your motion stops when your front foot hits the ground

If this describes you, the imbalance your front leg lift creates is destroying your command.

What’s the fix?

Your fix is to end your front leg lift with the same degree of balance you had when you were perched over the 2×4.

From there, a simple Glove Arm movement magically produces the next-level command needed to realize your pitching dreams.

Command is about balance.

The only way to command your pitches is to use what you discovered from your 2×4 experience to keep your Glove Arm free to send your pitches directly to your intended target.

Striding Hurts Your Command

Pro Pitching Institute

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Spin Around Your Core and Command Is Sure to Follow.

Much like a figure skater beginning a spin, for you to spin into your ball release …

  1. Your weight must be evenly distributed around your Core,
  2. Your Arms must be free to initiate your spin, and
  3. When your Upper Body begins your spin, you can only have one foot on the ground.

Striding Prevents Command.

When you stride, the conditions needed for command disappear.

  1. Your stride shifts your weight toward your target,
  2. You use your Throwing Arm to offset your forward weight shift, and
  3. You can’t use your Upper Body until both Feet are on the ground and your weight moves back to center.

Your Solution: Turn Your Stride into a Reaction.

Your stride becomes a reaction when …

  1. You end your Front Leg lift with your weight evenly distributed around your Core,
  2. Your balanced Front Leg lift keeps your Arms free to move the way you want, and
  3. You start your spin while perched on one foot.

A Reactionary Stride Forces Command.

Spin down the mound, your stride forces you to use your Throwing Action to get your Body back to balance and, consequently, send many more pitches directly into your intended target.

Command is Very Teachable

Por Pitching Institute

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Your Feedback Loops

Your Brain continually receives messages about your balance, determines how you react to any imbalance, and dictates the movements needed to stabilize your Body.

The only way to control your movements is to understand how your Body reacts to your imbalances, then plan your movement around these reactions.

Poorly Timed Imbalances Hurt Command.

A plan that ends your Front Leg lift with your weight over your Back Foot means your movement down the mound creates an imbalance, drives your Body to self-correct, and alters your Throwing Arm path.

Start this way and, unless you find the right tempo, you’re unlikely to produce the command you want.

Balance Drives Command.

However, end your Front Leg lift with your Body in balance, and it becomes very possible to choreograph the end of your stride.

By finishing your delivery with the right imbalance, your Brain uses your Throwing Arm to get your Body back in balance and, in the process, produce the command that’ll keep your pitching dreams alive.

Make Your Command a Foregone Conclusion.

Once you design a Front Leg lift that’ll promote balance, you can choreograph the self-corrections that’ll produce the command you want.

Program Your Body for Success

Pro Pitching Institute

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Your Brain is designed to work in a “when-then” format.

When < in your everyday life, you make a movement >, then < your Brain is programmed to respond to the same movement in the same way >.

Basic Programming Statements.

When < you move> and <your movement keeps your weight centered around your Torso >, then <you will control your next movement >.

When < your movement creates a weight shift >, then < like walking a balance beam, your Brain’s programming will use your Arms to get your body back in balance >.

How do you produce the results you want?

When < you end your Front Leg lift with a distance between your Knees >, then <you will fool your Brain’s programming into acting as if you had both Feet on the ground >.

When <you fool your Brain >, then < the control you have over your Body can end your stride with your Body unraveling from the ground up > and < you will whip your Throwing Arm into release > and < you will produce the results you want with uncanny regularity >.

Next Steps

Think about your movements in terms of your Mind’s programming and you’ll immediately produce better results more often.

Get Better Results More Often!

Instead of throwing the ball, let your Body position at the top of your Front Leg lift produce the results you need to keep your pitching dreams alive.

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Start by Understanding Your Body.

  1. When balanced on one leg, your Lower Body moves in unison with your Shoulders.
  2. Therefore, to rotate your Hips, you must first spin your Shoulders.

Your Dilemma.

Your problem is that, as silly as it sounds, you’re taught to throw with your Throwing Arm.

  1. When you use your Throwing Arm to deliver your pitches, you stop your Front Shoulder from moving your Hips.
  2. You lose your Lower Body.
  3. Your Throwing Arm works alone, and
  4. You can’t know with any certainty where any single pitch will end up.

Your Solution.

By ending your Front Leg lift with your Back Knee over the Little Toes of your Back Foot, you keep your Arms free to move the way you want.

  1. You can then use your Glove Arm to rotate out of your Front Leg lift.
  2. Your rotation ends your Stride with your Hips and Shoulders at different angles.
  3. Your Body position at Foot Plant forces your Lower Body to whip your Throwing Hand into release and repeatedly produce the results you expect.

Your bottom line … instead of throwing the ball, let your Body position at the top of your Front Leg lift produce the results you need to keep your pitching dreams alive.

How To You Keep Your Lower Body Connected?

Discover how your Foot Placements prepare your Lower Body to produce the results you want as often as you expect.

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.Ending your Stride with a twisted Torso force your Body to use your Throwing Action to right itself.

In the process, your Lower Body produces the results you want as often as you expect.

How Do You End Your Stride with a Twist?

To end your Stride with your Hips and Shoulders at different angles, you use your Glove Side Shoulder to spin your Body out of your Front Leg lift.

Your Foot Plant stops your Lower Body rotation, your Upper Body continues to spin, and for your Body to get itself back to balance, you force your Body to make a throwing action.

Active Strides Hurt Your Results.

When you actively stride, you use your Throwing Arm to offset your forward weight shift, and by doing so, you lock your Glove Arm in place.

With your Glove Arm locked in place, you block any Upper Body rotation, and can only hope to produce the results you expect.

A Free Glove Arm is Critical to Your Mound Success.

The right Foot placements end your Front Leg lift with your Front Knee in front of your Front Shoulder.

The separation between your Knees keeps your Glove Arm free to have your Lower Body drive the results you want.

Here’s a Way to Instantly Improve Your Pitching Results

Discover a proven way to trick your Body into producing the results you need to keep your pitching career moving to the next level.

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Pitching aside, with both Feet on the ground, your Body naturally centers your weight between your Feet and keeps your Arms free to move the way you want.

The Results You Want

By ending your Front Leg lift with a distance between your Knees, you trick your Body into acting as if you had both Feet on the ground.

Your Body keeps your Glove Arm free to engage your Lower Body, you allow your Throwing Arm to react to your Lower Body and, as an instantaneous reaction, your Throwing Action produces the results you want.

The Results You Do Have

However, when, at the top of your Front Leg lift, you place your weight over your Back Foot, you must stride.

Your stride may move you toward your target, but it also engages your Front Hip, locks your Throwing Shoulder in place, and makes using your Lower Body to drive your results physically impossible.

This means, unless you find a productive Stride tempo, you can only hope to produce the results you want.

Get Better Results

Producing better results comes from finding the right combination of Foot Placements and Lower Body positioning that’ll allow you to end your Front Leg lift with a distance between your Knees.

If you need help finding a productive Front Leg lift, Coach Skip is waiting for your call.

Start Your 2022 Season Off on the Right Foot!

End your Front Leg lift with a distance between your Knees, and, with the right Glove Arm action, fulfill your 2022 goals.

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

How to Improve Your 2022 Outings?

The 2022 improvement you desire comes from keeping a clear distance between your Knees at the top of your Front Leg lift.

Do this and you keep your Throwing Arm free to repeatedly and automatically produce the results you want as often as you expect.

A Simple Goal for Your 2022 Pitching Motion

In 2022, by beginning with your Feet under your Knees, you, by design, stand a better chance to finish your Front Leg lift with your Front Knee separated from your Back, and consequently keep your Throwing Arm free to respond to your foot plant.

By using your Glove Arm to take you out of your Front Leg lift, the distance between your Knees signals your body to end your stride with your hips and shoulders at different angles.

Realize Your 2022 Goals

By plan, your Body uses your Throwing action to relieve the tension created at foot plant.

Your Body whips your Throwing Arm into release, and, in the process, automatically upgrades your 2021 results to your 2022 goals,
