Your Lower Body and Your Glove Arm

Your Lower Body and Your Glove Arm

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

An Inactive Glove Hand

From an out-of-balance starting position, you use your glove arm to keep your body in balance, you lose control of your glove hand until your front foot hits the ground and, when your front foot hits the ground, your glove arm has no impact on your pitch location.

An Active Glove Hand

However, from a balance starting position, your pitch location is about your glove hand path triggering your lower body and sending the ball into your target.

With this specific glove hand path, your pitch location becomes automatic, and your concern is your pitch speed and movement.

The Resolution

If you’re unable to get your glove hand to drive your command, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Until next time, I’m Coach Skip telling you your lower body is coachable.

Your Lower Body and Your Feet

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

Your Feet Kill Your Results

When your feet begin too far apart, your front leg takes over your motion.

Your front leg must hit the ground and your throwing hand delivers the ball toward your target.

Because you don’t consciously control your throwing hand, you never know where your ball will end up.

Your Feet Promote Lower Body Engagement

On the other hand, when your feet create balance, your glove hand gets your hips to rotate, your hips fire your throwing hand, and your lower body delivers your ball into your target.

If you’re unable to get your feet in the right position, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Until next time, I’m Coach Skip telling you your lower body is coachable.

Lower Body Engagement

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Hi, I’m Coach Skip and I teach lower body engagement.

What is Lower Body Engagement?

Your foot positions, front leg lift, and glove hand action force your lower body to deliver the ball to your target.

You must first balance your front leg lift, then have your glove hand take you into your foot strike.

Your glove hand takes you into a naturally automatic release point and your release point produces your command.

How Do You Get It?

No one else spent the time to discover how your lower body delivers the ball to your target than me.

So, if you’re unable to get your lower body to produce your command, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Until next time, I’m Coach Skip telling you your lower body is coachable.

The Origin of Fastball Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

What Fastball Command Isn’t

Fastball command isn’t about your throwing action … it’s about your front leg lift.

Without a balanced front leg lift, your foot plant is gravity driven, and your ball goes within your target area, but never into your target as often as you need.

What Fastball Command Is

The most important action is your balanced front leg lift.

Fastball command comes from producing a balanced front leg lift, a well-managed glove hand action, and a well-timed throwing arm trigger.

Resolution

Unable to get your balance into your front leg lift, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Promote Fastball Command

Random Fastball Command

Your throwing hand going behind your body tells you that you don’t have the fastball command you need.

Your throwing arm going behind your body is used to balance your stride, your body position is random, and your ball release is arbitrary.

Pinpoint Fastball Command

However, your hands staying in front of your body shouts fastball command.

Your body is in balance, your throwing arm reacts to your glove hand, you land in the same body position all the time, and the ball goes where you want.

Resolution

Unable to get your throwing arm in front of your body, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Command and Your Stride

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Once your front leg lift is balanced, your glove hand path takes control of the ball.

Later Front Leg

Right now, your out-of-balanced starting position has you finishing your stride, then firing the ball toward your target.

Thoughts you can control the ball are a misconception.

Earlier Front Leg

However, from a balanced front leg lift, when your glove hand takes a direct path toward your target, you begin your throwing action, then your front foot hits the ground.

Your glove hand tips your weight, your throwing hand begins its trip toward home, and your ball goes where your eyes are focused.

Resolution

For those of you who are unable to balance your starting position, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your command.

Command Requires an Open Front Shoulder

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Do you know an open front shoulder at foot strike gets your lower body to send your pitches directly into your target?

A Closed Front Shoulder

If you’re like most pitchers you currently create an imbalance, your land your stride with your front shoulder closed to your target, and essentially don’t know where the ball will end up.

An Open Front Shoulder

On the other hand, when you place your feet one baseball width apart and lift your front leg straight up, you’re able to let your glove arm take over your motion.

Your glove arm opens your hips, your hips begin your throwing action, and your ball goes where you want with one motion and one result … into your target.

Resolutions

Unable to balance your motion, feel free to use my do-it-yourself pitching program or my in-person, South Jersey pitching sessions to improve your motion.

Your Glove Hand Prompts Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Do you realize your glove arm controls your pitch location?

Front Side Takes Over

Let’s say you have a perfect set up and you let your front side takes over.

When you let this happen, your front foot hits the ground and your body naturally position your weight distributed between your legs.

From this position, you’re free to fire the ball, but your problem is that you never know where the ball is going to end up.

Arms Control Your Command

Your arms controlling your legs is the better situation.

When you let your arms control your legs, your legs follow your arms.

Your Solution

Your ball naturally goes where you want, and you keep the hitter guessing about ball speed and movement.

Your ball goes into your target, and you end up controlling the hitter.

Having trouble with your upper body controlling your legs, I’m waiting for a call.

Command is Balance

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back foot means you control the ball.

Out of Balance Front Legs

When you make the mistake of placing your weight in front of your back leg, here’s what’s going to happen.

Your front leg lift places your weight over your back leg and, as soon as you move toward the target, your body can’t do anything until your front foot hits the ground and you balance your weight between your feet.

With your weight in balance, you complete your delivery and send your ball home.

Balanced Front Legs

Beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back leg eliminates these self-corrections and makes your delivery part of your motion.

Your weight balanced over your back leg gives you the confidence to send your ball to your target.

Having trouble beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back leg, I’m waiting for your call.

Your Glove Hand Path Produces Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Your glove hand path makes your ball go where you want.

Preparation

You prepare for your glove hand path by
– bending your knees,
– placing your feet one baseball width apart,
– putting your weight over your back knee, and
– making sure your front foot is over your front shoulder.

Front Foot Lift

When your front foot comes off the ground, you

– lift your front knee toward your front shoulder,
– position your back heel in front of your back toe and
– make sure your front toe is facing the target.

Delivery

From there, your glove hand produces your command.

You …

– brings your glove hand palm toward your target and
– ball moves directly to your target.

Essentially, your glove hand triggers your lower body to naturally send your ball directly to your target.

Having an issue with your glove hand path, Coach Skip is waiting for your call.
