THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF THE GLOVE HAND

When you’re not balanced, your glove hand and your delivery can’t work correctly.

The Inactive Glove Hand

An inactive glove hand is a starting position problem.

Out-of-balance start → Glove arm used for balance → Loss of control → No influence on pitch location

When the glove hand is just trying to keep you upright, it drifts, reacts, and disappears from the sequence

The Active Glove Hand

An active glove hand begins with balance and organizes your entire delivery.

Balanced start → Controlled glove path → Triggers lower body → Sends energy to target → Automatic location

Now the glove hand leads direction, sets timing, and connects the body to the target

Why It Works

The glove hand is the bridge between direction and sequence.

The lower body responds naturally, the head moves toward the target, and the arm no longer must compensate

The glove hand prompts the motion, the body follows, and the arm delivers.

The Key Truth

Pitch location is built by a balanced start, a directed glove hand path, and a connected lower body sequence.

When the glove hand and lower body work together, location becomes automatic.

The Motion Is Connected

A pitching motion is a chain reaction.

Each movement builds on the one before it: Starting Position → Front Leg Lift → Lower Body Movement → Target

When one link is off, everything that follows adjusts.

The Foundation Controls Everything

A proper starting position sets the entire delivery in motion.

The front leg lift movement establishes balance, the lower body generates and directs energy, and the motion delivers the ball to the target

Small Errors Become Big Problems

A minor mechanical error early in the motion, disruptive timing, reduced accuracy, or shifting the workload to the arm forces the body to compensate later.

The body always tries to adapt, but those natural adaptations create unnatural mechanics.

The Truth About the Lower Body

The lower body responds to the sequence.

When the sequence is correct, the lower body works naturally, energy transfers efficiently, and the ball is delivered with less effort and more consistency

Pitch Smart

The goal is to build the motion correctly from the start, so each phase supports the next.

When the sequence is right, the body works together, the motion becomes repeatable, and the ball finds the target more consistently

A Way to Optimize Lower Body Mechanics

Shoulders Promote Your Lower Body

You allow the sequence to build from the top down.

In a well-sequenced delivery, the glove hand initiates shoulder movement, and the shoulders help control the tempo and balance of the entire delivery.

What happens in one part of the body influences everything else, therefore the kinetic chain never works in isolation.

When the upper body stays organized, the lower body responds naturally and efficiently.

Stop Thinking About Your Lower Body

When you focus on forcing your lower body to move, you often create stiffness, rush your motion, and lose your natural timing.

Many pitchers try to generate power from their legs, but the upper-body cues start the sequence.

Your body already knows how to move; your job is simply not to interfere with it.

Pitch Smart

When pitchers focus on upper body cues, the lower body stays relaxed, movements become smoother and more fluid, timing throughout the delivery improves, and  command becomes more repeatable

Instead of forcing the motion, the pitcher allows the kinetic chain to unfold naturally, and when the sequence improves, the arm simply delivers the ball.

The Crucial Role of the Lower Body

The lower body doesn’t work independently. It reacts.

When the sequence is correct, the lower body naturally becomes the engine that drives the pitch.

Lower body engagement is the result of proper timing between the glove hand, torso rotation, and ball release.

The Glove Hand Starts the Chain

The glove hand plays a critical role in initiating the motion.

When the glove hand turns over correctly, it initiates torso rotation, creates separation between the upper and lower body, and stabilizes the upper body

This movement sets the timing that allows the rest of the body to respond.

When the glove hand works correctly, the body begins rotating in the proper order.

The Lower Body Becomes the Engine

Once the upper body begins rotating correctly, the hips respond and the lower body now drives the motion.

Momentum generated by the hips transfers through the legs and directs the pitch toward the target.

When the sequence is correct, energy flows through the body, direction stays aligned, and the arm simply delivers the ball

The lower body becomes the engine that guides the ball to the catcher’s glove.

That’s “Sequence Over Strength.”
