A pitcher’s command begins long before the baseball leaves the hand.
One of the most important positions in the delivery is the relationship between the front knee and the front hip.
Front Knee and The Front Knee
When your front knee stays in front of your front hip, your lower body is in position to lead the delivery, alignment allows your stride to land in balance, and your hips to continue moving through the throw.
The force is transferred efficiently from the ground through your legs, core, and into your throwing arm.
Your Throwing Arm
Your throwing arm stays in front of your body instead of falling behind it.
The arm no longer compensates for poor lower-body timing and simply delivers the baseball to the target.
What Not To Do
When the front knee falls behind the front hip, your lower body loses its ability to drive the delivery, your throwing arm is forced to catch up, and command becomes inconsistent.
Missing the target is often a sign that the arm is compensating for a lower-body movement problem.
Pitching Excellence
Proper front knee position helps create repeatable mechanics, efficient velocity, natural ball movement, and consistent command.
