Command is Balance

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back foot means you control the ball.

Out of Balance Front Legs

When you make the mistake of placing your weight in front of your back leg, here’s what’s going to happen.

Your front leg lift places your weight over your back leg and, as soon as you move toward the target, your body can’t do anything until your front foot hits the ground and you balance your weight between your feet.

With your weight in balance, you complete your delivery and send your ball home.

Balanced Front Legs

Beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back leg eliminates these self-corrections and makes your delivery part of your motion.

Your weight balanced over your back leg gives you the confidence to send your ball to your target.

Having trouble beginning your motion with your weight balanced over your back leg, I’m waiting for your call.

Your Glove Hand Path Produces Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Your glove hand path makes your ball go where you want.

Preparation

You prepare for your glove hand path by
– bending your knees,
– placing your feet one baseball width apart,
– putting your weight over your back knee, and
– making sure your front foot is over your front shoulder.

Front Foot Lift

When your front foot comes off the ground, you

– lift your front knee toward your front shoulder,
– position your back heel in front of your back toe and
– make sure your front toe is facing the target.

Delivery

From there, your glove hand produces your command.

You …

– brings your glove hand palm toward your target and
– ball moves directly to your target.

Essentially, your glove hand triggers your lower body to naturally send your ball directly to your target.

Having an issue with your glove hand path, Coach Skip is waiting for your call.

Your Lower Body Produces Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

You might not know this, but your balance is determined by your front foot position.

No Lower Body

Your front foot position causes your front knee to finish behind your front hip, you need a weight shift to move down the mound, and you begin your throwing action after your weight is back in balance.

In this process, you eliminate your lower body, your throwing arm controls your delivery, and your ball ends up where your body decides.

You miss two pitches in a row to your target and your front foot position is the reason.

Engaged Lower Body

However, you begin your motion with the front foot position close to your back foot and you’re more likely to have the balance needed for your lower body to send your ball directly to your target.

Said another way, when you get your front foot to begin closer to your back foot, your lower body pulls your throwing arm through the same release point.

Dads Beware!!!

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

There comes a point when your son will stop listening to you.

Why? Because you tell your son what you want him to do without telling how to do it.

Your Solution.

To avoid this, you need to realize are three elements to pitching instruction.

  1. Understand what needs to be improved,
    2. Understand why the improvement will elevate your son’s performance, and
    3. Most importantly, understand how to improve the motion without changing your son’s throwing action.

What your son wants to do is elementary … he needs to make his performance as simple and automatic as possible.

Fail to Improve.

Fulfill each element and you’re golden.

On the other hand, Dads who realize they don’t understand how to teach their son what he should be doing need to seek professional guidance.

Need help with your son’s motion? Coach Skip is waiting for your call.

Lower Body Balance Guarantees Fastball Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Like walking a balance beam, once your mind senses your hips aren’t level, you instinctively use your arms to balance your lower body.

On the other hand, when your mind senses your lower body is in balance, you can use your arms any way you want

Your Body Only Works One Way.

This is the way your body works, and things don’t change just because you’re pitching.

When pitching, anytime you miss your target, you can be sure it happened because some weight shift caused you to use your throwing arm for balance.

How to Improve Your Fastball Command?

Armed with this understanding, once you resolve the cause of your imbalance, you’re much more likely to end your stride with your lower body in balance and your throwing arm free to send your pitches where you want with uncanny regularity

Therefore, next-level fastball command comes from you using your lower body balance to naturally and consistently send your pitches directly into your intended target.

Need help with your lower body balance? I’m waiting for your call.

Video Analysis Slows Fastball Command Development

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Pitchers, you need to know a competent pitching coach is a man of science.

He understands action/reaction cycles.

He understands when you can control your actions and when your body is getting itself back in balance.

Science Makes Your Fastball Command Development Instantaneous.

Armed with this knowledge, a competent Pitching coach does not need video analysis to understand what he needs to teach to permanently and instantly improve your fastball command.

Without video analysis…

– He understands how to get your lower body to drive your results,
– He instantly recognizes why your fastball strays from your target, and
– On your very next pitch, he produces the results you know you need to excel on the mound.

Stop Wasting Your Time.

Beware, Pitching Coaches who rely on video analysis are not men of science and may be wasting your already too short pitching career asking you to change things that are out of your control.

Want to instantly improve your fastball command? I’m waiting for your call.

The Truth Behind Command

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

What do your arm actions tell you?

You may not realize it, but it’s impossible to let your body collapse in a heap on the floor.

The instant your Head signals your body that there’s an imbalance, you instinctively use your arms to keep from falling over.

However, when your Head remains centered over your neck and shoulder, your arms remain free to move the way they want.

Searching for command?

If you’re searching for better command, you’re allowing your head to tilt and, in response to your head tilt, you’re using your throwing arm for balance, letting your body control your throwing arm path, and can only hope your pitches end up where you want.

One Head Movement Produces Command.

On the other hand, end your stride with your Eyes level and your Head centered, by plan, your foot plant will move your Head from center.

Once your foot plant is the only thing that creates an imbalance, instead of using your throwing arm for balance, your throwing action will bring your body back to balance.

Automatically Send Your Pitcher Where You Want.

As a result, without thinking about anything else, you’ll see many more of your pitches end up where you expect.

Need help staying balanced into your foot plant? I’m waiting for your call.

Real-World Experiences Expose Command Breakdowns

Pro Pitching Institute

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Trust your real-world experiences to help improve your command.

Proof Balance Without Movement Hurts Command.

When balancing on a bike in place, at the first you’re about to fall over, you trust your subconscious will move your handlebars to the opposite side.

When pitching and a weight shift sends you toward your target, you can trust you will lose control of your Throwing Arm path.

Evidence Your Subconscious Is on Automatic.

When balanced on a bike and there’s a threat you’re about to fall over, you can trust your subconscious will move your handlebars.

When pitching, as you drive down the mound, your body will use your Arms for balance, and you will lose your command.

Confirmation You Can Control Your Arm Movements.

When riding a bike and you keep your weight positioned over your rotating wheels, your arms will be free to steer you where you want to go.

When pitching, as you spin your torso down the mound, you can trust your Arms won’t be needed for balance and will remain free to command your pitches.

Bike Behaviors Build Command.

When you end your Front Leg lift with your weight around your Back Leg and spin down the mound, you can trust your pitches will go where you want.

Need help balancing your Front Leg lift? Coach Skip is waiting to hear from you.

Get Better Results More Often!

Instead of throwing the ball, let your Body position at the top of your Front Leg lift produce the results you need to keep your pitching dreams alive.

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

Start by Understanding Your Body.

  1. When balanced on one leg, your Lower Body moves in unison with your Shoulders.
  2. Therefore, to rotate your Hips, you must first spin your Shoulders.

Your Dilemma.

Your problem is that, as silly as it sounds, you’re taught to throw with your Throwing Arm.

  1. When you use your Throwing Arm to deliver your pitches, you stop your Front Shoulder from moving your Hips.
  2. You lose your Lower Body.
  3. Your Throwing Arm works alone, and
  4. You can’t know with any certainty where any single pitch will end up.

Your Solution.

By ending your Front Leg lift with your Back Knee over the Little Toes of your Back Foot, you keep your Arms free to move the way you want.

  1. You can then use your Glove Arm to rotate out of your Front Leg lift.
  2. Your rotation ends your Stride with your Hips and Shoulders at different angles.
  3. Your Body position at Foot Plant forces your Lower Body to whip your Throwing Hand into release and repeatedly produce the results you expect.

Your bottom line … instead of throwing the ball, let your Body position at the top of your Front Leg lift produce the results you need to keep your pitching dreams alive.

Where and How to Focus Your Attention?

Discover a process to stay you focused on the things that’ll help your performances better match your expectations

Pro Pitching Institute is one of the top 100 baseball blogs on the Internet.

As a Pitcher, over and above trying to coach yourself, you have lots to think about, tons of responsibilities, get pulled in many directions at the same time, and bounce between the past and future.

However, when you stay in the present, these distractions disappear, and you produce much better results more often.

Teach Yourself to Be Present

To stop worrying about what might happen, feeling guilty about what did happen, and controlling what’s about to happen, practice your delivery in ultra-slow motion.

This simple act points out your motion’s weaknesses, and, once corrected, shuts out the distractions standing between what you want to do and what you actually do.

Realizing Exceptional Results

Making an ultra-slow motion lets you understand how your foot placements, leg work, and hand positioning combine to produce your Front Leg lift and why, coming out of your front leg lift, your motion stops at your foot plant.

An ultra-slow motion keeps you in the present, tells you in real-time the relationship between your actions/reactions, and opens the door to forcing your body to end your stride with a totally spontaneous and highly productive throwing action.

Need help managing your ultra-slow movements, Coach Skip is waiting for your call.
